Why is my tablet not letting me pull up my downloaded document

One way to troubleshoot any computer issue is to follow the error logs that should be presented you to after your computer or tablet fails to execute whatever you had commanded it to do.

--> In your case, the tablet failed to execute open a downloaded document.

--> Ask yourself, how did you know the tablet couldn't open the doc? Did you tap on an icon? If so, did an error message show up informing you the doc cannot open? Or did the tablet not do anything - did the screen simply blink or remain still as if you had not entered any command for it to execute?

If you see the error message, most likely it will be presented in a form of issue or resolution - a well designed operating system will show you both so that users like yourself can rectify the problem with ease. If the message mentions something about the tablet needing an äpplication"or "program"to execute your command, follow it's suggestion through a web search or, if the problem is as basic as jayeff deduced in the previous comment, you'll most likely find a setup guideline in the instructions manual which you should have from the initial purchase of the tablet.

--> now, if nothing I've written applies to your problem, then we must investigate another way to troubleshoot the problem. In order to do so, could you post more details about your tablet? Starting with brand, hardware and software models, and what the file format of this worksheet, where you downloaded it from, whether or not you can open a folder/application/system directory and see an icon that represents the stored download, etc.

That last bit of request (set of tablet info) can be a huge help to answering all your questions or problems you may come up with or run into while using any computer device. In other words, try to include the following contents of inquiry:

1. what is the object that you are trying to troubleshoot? an RCA tablet-- if so there are multiple RCA tablets, in various hardware models and software packets and you want to get information about your specific machine (unless you want pages and pages of irrelevant guidelines and suggestions regarding all about everything) so tell us exactly what the object is. this is the tablet details I've requested. You get the idea.

2. what's the problem? Often problems you experience first-hand are not like those you study or learn from textbooks that will present logical flow to troubleshooting/understanding a computer operation/design/problems. So when I say, what's the problem? You may not be able to provide clear report on the situation you are facing. First, tell us general info about the issue (e.g. you can't open a .xls spreadsheet fie that you downloaded from your school/classroom website www.??????.com and that you saw some kind of indication that the document was downloading but, when you tried opening it, there was an error message/or the screen blinked/etc.etc.)Therefore the next best thing you can do is tell us exactly what you experienced step by step. Expand your journey by giving us details of what you've clicked and what you're exactly trying to do/open (i.e. provide details regarding the file type/format, website used to download, whether or not you've run into this problem before or if thi s is your first time ever turning on this tablet). Without this bit of your narration, there are essentially an infinite number of things that could be the issue and consequentially infinite number of ways to troubleshoot this infinite number of issues. In addition to helping others understand your problem to the fullest, you will also begin to gain an understanding of compute/general logic of the machine's/man-made object's architecture and build your own way of understanding how machines/things are built, designed and operate - e.g. if you don't download an application before opening a file of type which you've never opened before one a particular tablet, then the tablet usually can't open files/execute my commands.

phew! I've written all of this to hopefully influence your way of tackling an issue, especially when presenting it to an audience, to a more logical and also assuming your novice level of expertise in the matter. if you are a computer genius that can rock my world and found no help in my answer, then i hope that you agree with my approach to tackling a computer issue. either way, help me understand your problem more.

thanks!

Surface Pro 3 AC Chords Recalled For Catching Fire, Microsoft Tablet Problem Sparks Panic

(Photo : Microsoft) Surface Pro 3 owners are being made aware that the device's power chords are being recalled by Microsoft due to heating issues. Older tablets, like the Surface Pro 2 and Surface Pro, are also impacted. Eligible products must have been sold before March 15, 2015.

Surface Pro 3 owners have been warned by Microsoft about a product recall on the tablet's AC chord. Reports of faulty power cables have caused consumer panic.

The news comes to Design & Trend via the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website and official confirmation from Microsoft. Both outlets detail the risks behind the problem.

According to the source, there's evidence of 56 cases where power chords have either overheated or caught fire when used with the Surface Pro 3, Surface Pro 2 or the original Surface Pro. An additional five tallies allege electrical shock dangers as well.

With that data solidified, Microsoft has decided to recall the faulty accessory for all those that request a replacement. The official statement lists AC power chords for the aforementioned tablets only if they were sold before March 15, 2015. To clarify, similar products like the Surface Pro 4, Surface RT, Surface 2 and Surface 3 are not affected. Nor are any related accessories that aren't included in the box. This issue only applies to older devices in the Pro line. Regardless, estimates reveal that millions of consumers around the world are eligible.

Ironically enough, this recall began two weeks ago under the assumption that Surface Pro power chords were being easily damaged in normal use. It's only in recent days that tech enthusiasts have learned about the flammable problems we're discussing now.

Despite being part of Microsoft's last-gen hardware portfolio, the Surface Pro 3 has been making headlines frequently for tablet enthusiasts over the past few weeks. A recent firmware update led to problems on the software end by causing blue screens, freezes and boot failures. Support staff was quick to rectify that snafu with a driver-based solution, but the present recall situation will likely prove to be more complicated.

To reiterate, impacted power chords are only listed for tablets in the Pro line that are Surface Pro 3 and older. The current model Surface Pro 4 has been deemed safe for use.

Have you had problems with your Surface Pro 3 power chord? Did Microsoft respond correctly to the recall? Tell us in the poll and comments section!

Canonical fulfills its Linux convergence vision with BQ Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition tablet

ubuntu-m10-Tablet_and_monitor_spreadsheet_doc

Convergence is all the rage in the technology industry nowadays and for good reason -- our handheld devices are insanely powerful. It makes sense to leverage a smartphone or tablet's processor for desktop computing. By connecting a monitor, mouse, and keyboard to the mobile device, it can serve as a full-fledged computer. Those with more hardcore computing needs, such as editing video, for example, may have to wait a while for more powerful handheld devices.

Microsoft has shown off its Continuum functionality, which turns a Windows 10 Mobile smartphone into a desktop, but because of shocking limitations, it really isn't ready for prime-time. Canonical has long been working on its own convergence plans with Ubuntu -- it is not copying Microsoft's. Quite frankly, it can be argued that the open source Linux kernel is a more adaptable base for such Swiss Army-like devices as Windows could be too bloated. Today, Canonical unveils the BQ Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition tablet which fulfills its Linux convergence vision. Not only can a user be productive with the tablet itself, but it can be connected to peripherals to create a full desktop experience.

"The Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition is the first device to offer an Ubuntu convergent experience. It is also the first tablet with the Ubuntu Operating System. Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition brings Ubuntu's rich full touch experience to life. It's simple to connect a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard to convert the Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition into a full Ubuntu PC, featuring everything you know and love about Ubuntu. Then, connect the tablet to an external display for a full-sized PC experience", says Canonical.

The company further explains, "third party developers will be able to easily create new Ubuntu applications which only need to be developed once but which can be available and used across all Ubuntu interfaces. The Ubuntu SDK provides the fundamental tools developers need to make their apps easy to adapt and run on any display. When you see your application on the phone and then use that application on the desktop, it is the exact same code running each application. Ubuntu does not need to know if the app is coded for a mobile or desktop display rather it is the application that surfaces the appropriate interface depending on which display is required".

Canonical shares the following specs.

  • 10.1 inch multi-touch screen
  • MediaTek Quad Core MT8163A 64-bit ARM processor up to 1.5GHz
  • High capacity Li-Po battery (7280mAh)
  • Full HD (1080p) camera for super-sharp video recording
  • 2GB RAM
  • 16GB internal storage
  • MicroSD slot for extra storage (up to 64GB)
  • 8 megapixel camera with autofocus and dual flash
  • Frontal speakers
  • Micro HDMI port
  • Dimensions: 246 x 171 x 8.2mm
  • Lightweight at only 470g
  • This slideshow requires JavaScript.

For years, some people -- including myself, early on -- hated Ubuntu's default Unity desktop environment (I love it, now). Some detractors called the company insane for bringing a touch-friendly interface to a desktop operating system. Unlike Microsoft with its confusing Windows 8, however, Canonical got merging desktop and touch right. While Windows 10 is improved, it can still be confusing -- some users can't even figure out how to change the default search engine in Microsoft Edge web browser! Ubuntu's settings are far more streamlined. The Unity DE is now a beautiful and useful desktop UI that should transition brilliantly to a tablet.

The MediaTek SoC that powers the BQ Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition tablet is an ARM processor, meaning that there will be fewer available packages than an x86-based computer. With that said, the number of packages for ARM have increased dramatically over the year. Users should have no problem finding tons of useful apps.

Not only can the M10 serve as both a desktop and tablet, but I can see it being used as a makeshift laptop too. For instance, there are countless inexpensive Bluetooth keyboards on the market -- some will even prop-up the tablet for better viewing. If you keep the BQ Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition in a backpack with such a keyboard, you could be productive anywhere, like a coffee shop or in a park.

Of course, the device should also be a wonderful media device for road-warriors. Don't want to pay to rent a movie in a hotel? Don't. Load some movies from a micro SD card, and connect the tablet to the hotel's TV with HDMI. If you choose to watch a movie on the tablet itself, the front-facing speakers should supply great audio quality. Exciting stuff.

Rodrigo del Prado, Deputy CEO of BQ shares his excitement by saying, "the Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition is our third mobile device to ship with Ubuntu. Our customers were delighted with the Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu Edition and Aquaris E5 HD Ubuntu Edition phones, and we're excited to be the first OEM to ship the converged Ubuntu experience. It's this kind of innovation that makes BQ and Ubuntu such a great fit".

Unfortunately, pricing for this BQ-made tablet is a bit of a mystery, but Canonical promises it will be available in Q216 -- April, May, or June. Yeah, it stinks having to wait, but as they say, good things happen to those that do. Hopefully Canonical and BQ can deliver a truly solid convergence solution.

Do you think Ubuntu is the smarter choice for convergence compared to Windows 10? Tell me in the comments.

Nvidia ceases Android 6.0 update for Shield tablet due to potential Wi-Fi issue: How to fix it

Nvidia has pulled the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for its Shield tablet due to potential Wi-Fi problems being reported by users after installing the new update. Early birds who tried installing the Shield update on their tablets have reported complete loss of Wi-Fi connectivity and there seems to be no viable solution to fix the problem at the user end.

Folks at Android Police have confirmed that the issue is non-existent on the K1 variant of the Shield tablet, while a recent forum post by Nvidia confirms that the issue is confined to original Shield tablets running the 4.0 update. It is confirmed that some users are unable to turn on the Wi-Fi permanently, after installing the update.

Nvidia Shield tablet Wi-Fi issueNvidia GeForce forums

Various user posts on the forum reportedly suggest that the new update is setting the MAC address on some devices to 02:00:00:00:00:00:00 and there are no user-doable-steps to fix the broken Wi-Fi problem.

Nevertheless, affected users can try a few recommended troubleshooting steps from Nvidia:

  • Restart the tablet a couple of times
  • If the issue persists, power cycle your tablet three to four times (do not reboot, but power it off)
  • Charge your tablet to 100%, before you attempt turning on the Wi-Fi feature
  • As a last resort, perform a factory reset on your tablet. Ensure that you back up all important data on the device, before you do this step
  • Leave the tablet powered off for a few hours and check if Wi-Fi connectivity can be restored by toggling the switch back on
  • If all else fails, Nvidia recommends that you send a screenshot of the Advanced Wi-Fi page by going into Android settings > Wi-Fi and then click on the three dots on the top right-hand corner. Now select Advanced from the ensuing menu and take a screenshot of this page.
  • Email the screenshot to driverfeedback@nvidia.com along with the model name of the tablet and details about the troubleshooting steps you have already performed. Do not forget to include your GeForce forums username in your email.

NVIDIA Shield Tablet Receives the Android 6.0 Marshmallow Update

The NVIDIA Shield handset is one of the best tablets out there, and it comes with some great features and specifications. Well, we have some good news for all owners of this great tablet, as it seems that the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update is already rolling out for it.

The Shield Tablet is an awesome handset, ideal for playing games, but it seems that the Android 5 Lollipop was a bit fussy about where you've saved your games and application. Well, it seems that that this is not a problem anymore, as the new Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS combines the microSD card storage with the build-in memory.

With other words, you will be able to fill the tablet with videos, applications and games without having to worry about the space. However, we remind you that if you install this update on your Shield Tablet, it will wipe any microSD card that you've got inside the handset.

The new update also comes with a new look for the camera, improved burst mode and a new material design that will match with the new OS version. In addition, you will also notice all the Android 6.0 Marshmallow tweaks such as enhanced App Permissions, Google Now On Tap contextual search and the ability to launch the Google Now Voice commands from the Lock Screen.

You might even notice that the battery will last longer than usual and that's because of the new App Standby and Bluetooth lower energy. It's good to know that the Shield Tablet K1 has received also a small update, but it was mostly focusing on fixing some bugs and adding a bit more security tweaks.

The Android 6.0 Marshmallow OTA update is now available for the Wi-Fi only Shield Tablet, but anyone who owns the LTE model will be able to get it in a few weeks.

NVIDIA Updates SHIELD Tablet K1 With Security Patch & Bug Fixes

Back towards the end of December NVIDIA started rolling out the 1.0 software upgrade for the SHIELD Tablet K1, which brought the device forward to Android 6.0 Marshmallow for users. While not everyone likely received the software on that day or within the first few days, many users of the K1 have been enjoying Marshmallow for the past few weeks with the addition of things like Now On Tap and more granular permissions controls. Today NVIDIA has started to push out the 1.1 version of the software upgrade for the SHIELD Tablet K1 which is still Android 6.0 Marshmallow, but introduces a number of bug fixes and improvements as well as things like the most recent security patch for Android.

NVIDIA details the changes to look forward to in their latest release notes about software updates for the SHIELD Tablet K1, and while there aren't really any new features to look forward to this time around the update is still very much important as it contains the latest security patch. In addition to now offering users a more secure software experience on the device, the update being sent out today also includes optimized behavior for legacy applications that were using up more power than needed. This optimization alone is a useful one as it should help extend battery life a little bit for those who were using legacy apps, another important improvement though is the enhanced connectivity to WiFi, so for users who were having problems staying connected to their local network, or any WiFi network for that matter, this should do the trick to fix things up.

NVIDIA also included fixes for crashes in performance, as well as random crashes in the gamepad mapper for those who used it. If you are someone who has Doom 3 installed on the device and has had issues with starting the game, today's update should also fix the no launching issue as detailed by NVIDIA. There is also now included support for the stylus Lasso capture function, and the touchpad support on the SHIELD controller has been re-added with this update as well. As the update is beginning to roll out today, it's quite likely that some users will see the update now while it could take a few days or more for it to reach others.

However, she began to experience issues with the screen flashing after just a few days of use. She also complained to the store that the battery died after a few minutes of use even after a full charge. The tablet was returned to the store, she said, and she was given a replacement. However, similar problems occurred with the replacement device.Poorai said the second tablet was returned in its original pack aging, but the store refused to exchange it a second time. She said the store has kept the second device for repairs and she is now without a tablet and $800.She said she has been getting the run-around from the store. She reached out to the Express for help.Solution: The Express contacted the repairs manager at Mobile Expressions, who said the store could not replace the second tablet as it was out of warranty. He said, in an effort to assist the customer, the store has contacted the supplier to conduct repairs, which would take some time.He said this was explained to the customer, who agreed to this arrangement and has not made any complaint to the store since. He said the problems with both devices most likely arose from a voltage irregularity while charging, which he said was no fault of the store's, but an issue with the customer's electricity supply. He added that both tablets were returned to the store with damage, including screen scratches and impressions. He said, despite th is, the store has been making every effort to resolve the situation amicably and return the repaired tablet to the customer."We have already exchanged it once so we have shown goodwill towards the customer," he said.He assured that the store was not giving the customer the run-around, nor is it attempting to defraud her. He said the matter was still ongoing and would be resolved soon.
