Even with recent updates, sometimes Movies & TV simply won't start streaming the content that users have purchased. When this happens, complete close the app by clicking on the X in the top-right corner of your screen. Touch users should swipe their finger downward from the top edge of their screen and tap the Close button in the right corner.

Starting the app up again should fix the issue.

Common Windows 10 Problems: Start Menu Won't Open

There are some problems that have plagued Windows 10 since its launch in 2015. Windows 10's Start Menu may be both touch and keyboard-friendly, but it has big issues with reliability on some systems. When I was a kid, a big concern for parents was kids watching too much TV.

We were told not to sit so close, but with TV remotes not being prevalent until the mid-'80s, you had to sit close so you could easily change channels.

Along came Nintendo in the mid-to-late 1980s, and the new concern was kids sitting and playing video games for too long. This problem persists to this day.

In the '90s, personal computers spread like the plague, and now sitting at a monitor became another concern.

A new concern for modern-day parents is the tablet. Tablets rose to prominence at the turn of this decade. During the past 7 years they have made their way into millions of homes across the country – and world for that matter. They bring a new form of entertainment that television cannot deliver.

Believe it or not, Isabella already is becoming a whiz at working my tablet — and she's only 2 1/2.

I'm certainly not keen on her using the tablet a lot, but it has its advantages.

She loves a series of videos on YouTube called "Bob the Train." Bob has all sorts of fun songs and learning games. Isabella loves music, and these are music-based, so she sings the tunes all the time.

When she wants to use the tablet, she calls it "train." She'll lead me by the hand to where we keep the tablet plugged in, she'll toss my hand upward at it and say "train!"

Don't worry. We don't always give it to her. She needs to play with her toys and other learning tools we have at home. She gets upset when we don't give it to her, but she usually gets over it pretty quickly.

We try to limit her use to an hour, and we usually try to be strategic about when that hour is.

For instance, we generally get home from work around 6 p.m. At that time, we have to feed her, then we play with her for a bit. But then, we have to make dinner for ourselves. It's really hard to make a meal with a 2-year-old "helping."

So around 7, we finally give in to her request for the "train." At 8, it's bath time and bedtime, so we take the tablet from her. By putting her right into the tub, it cuts down on the fit she would otherwise throw when we take it away from her. She loves her bubble bath, so she quickly forgets about the tablet.

But as I said earlier, the tablet has its advantages. When she doesn't have it, she sings the songs she's learned as she plays. She also mimics some of the actions and dances she sees in the videos. She's talking more because these videos are mostly education-based, rather than the type of entertainment-based cartoons you get on TV. Plus, many schools are going to tablet-based curriculum. She'll be more than ready for these classes.

It should also be noted she rarely watches TV. We'll leave the Disney Junior Channel on the TV as background noise, but if she's playing with her princess castle or train set, she could care less. (Truth be told, I watch the cartoons more than she does. It beats watching the news!)

Yes, with each coming generation, there will be some sort of technological advancement that will bring concern to parents.

I turned out OK. I suspect Isabella will, too.

The adapter connects to your television audio input and then transmits the sound via Bluetooth to your headphones. The typical range is 30 feet or more.

If you're playing games rather than just listen, you'll need a pair of comfortable headphones including a good microphone to let you coordinate with fellow gamers. That can be a tough combination to find without any wires, especially if you're looking for something at an affordable price point, but the LucidSound LS30 fits the bill.

A Nintendo tablet is a fantastic idea

Nintendo's next big thing, its Switch gaming console, is essentially a fancied up tablet.

It comes with a dock that allows you to play games on a television and small, paddle-like controllers bristling with buttons and triggers that can slide into either side of the Nintendo Switch tablet.

But strip all of that away and you're left with a 6.2-inch touchscreen tablet, or something a bit smaller than an iPad Mini 4, designed for gaming on the go.

Which begs the question: Once the Switch hits on March 3 for about $300, will Nintendo's competition become more Apple and its mobile devices than the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One?

Perhaps that wouldn't be a bad thing.

The current state of gaming on Apple devices is a bit of a mess. While you can find robust games that run on the iPad, like strategy game XCOM and action title BioShock, they tend to be ports, not original releases.

Instead, the bulk of the games that make up the library of Apple's phone and tablet are what Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Amie once called "bite-sized entertainment." They're not meals, simply a bit of gaming amuse-bouche.

And finding good titles among those tiny creations can be a challenge. The App Store is a bloated storefront buckling under the tremendous demands of developers of all types. The games that rise to the top often rely on pay-to-play tactics that can eventually erode the quality of content.

But, to be fair, Apple never set out to be a game publisher or to create devices chiefly designed for gameplay. That gaming has become such a massive success on the system is almost despite Apple's early efforts.

Nintendo

Enter Nintendo, a company with the experience in solving this very specific problem.

Back in the mid-80s, gaming as a whole faced an issue of a glut of bad games. It was, some believe, one of the reasons the American home video game market collapsed in 1983. When Nintendo waded into the fray with its Nintendo Entertainment System, it brought with it an interesting concept: The Official Nintendo Seal of Quality.

The seal was how Nintendo told customers that the game wasn't poorly conceived or developed. It was a quality game.

While gaming consoles have mostly sorted through those issues today, mobile games seem stuck in the same flood of bad titles that so undermined console gaming in the 80s.

By redirecting its attention to a new market, Nintendo has the opportunity to do for mobile games what it already did for console games.

Of course, we don't know yet what Nintendo really has in mind for its system. That, despite a day spent showing the device to the press and answering nearly as many questions as it declined to.

So far Nintendo has only shown off big, console-like titles such as Super Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Splatoon 2.

But it stands to reason that a device with touchscreen support will eventually get some of the same tiny games that Nintendo once derided. The company is already making some of those games, like Super Mario Run, for smartphones.

Perhaps the Switch could find yet another Blue Ocean from which Nintendo can convert a whole other sort of gamer. Where the Wii sought out and found a generation of willing casual gamers, interested in playing motion games like tennis and bowling, perhaps the Switch will tap into the super casual gamer. The people who play games on their smartphones and tablets everyday, but would never identify themselves as a gamer.

It's an interesting tactic for Nintendo to potentially take in the wake of the dismal failure of its Wii U game console, which Nintendo recently stopped making.

Where the Wii U was a confusion of technology (it included standard controllers, motion play, HD graphics and even a tablet-like GamePad that wasn't designed to leave the house), the Switch appears to be relatively narrowly focused.

The core concept is a tablet that can play host to games on the go or be dropped into a dock for gaming on a television.

The company built motion controls and even some basic shape detection into those detachable paddles, but so far those features feel almost unnecessary to the core device. That's in part because we're not seeing a lot of great uses for the tech yet, a sign that perhaps Nintendo will rely on third-party developers to prove its worth.

The paddles themselves could easily become the sort of thing that could be shed at a moment's notice for simple touch-screen gaming. And a future with a Nintendo tablet, one that can deliver quality Nintendo games on a sleek, self-contained device, doesn't sound that bad at all.

What we still need to see, though, are any games using the touchscreen in a meaningful way and whether or not the Switch will become a full tablet replacement by allowing users to do non-gaming things with it, like browse the internet, watch videos and listen to music.

With just a couple of months until the Switch hits stores, Nintendo still has a lot to explain.

Back from dead: Intel's Atom chip, in Panasonic's $2,189 Android tablet

Intel is phasing out Atom chips from mobile devices and has scaled back Android development for such devices.

But Panasonic has come out with a new tablet with an Atom chip and Android 6.0 anyway. Panasonic's new Toughbook FZ-A2 has a crazy starting price of US $2,189, and its Atom x5-Z8550 chip is a big problem.

Atom chips are almost disappearing from tablets, especially devices with Android. There are also questions on whether the Toughbook will get upgraded to the newer Android 7.0, code-named Nougat. Panasonic didn't provide a response to the query.

Panasonic's release of the new Toughbook with Android is an interesting move, especially as other PC makers abandon Atom and excitement around Android tablets fade. Dell last year stopped selling Android tablets -- which had x86 chips -- and won't be delivering OS upgrades to its existing Venue devices.

Last year Lenovo started offering the Atom x5-Z8550 chip in its Yoga Book 2-in-1, which can be purchased with Windows or Android. The Yoga Book is unique as it replaces a hard keyboard with a virtual keypad, much like on tablets. At the time, Lenovo had to turn to Atom as the chip was ready for Android.

But now, Intel is focusing on Windows, and promoting low-power Core, Pentium, and Celeron chips for tablets and 2-in-1s. The chipmaker continues to work with Google on Chromebooks and IoT devices using the Brillo OS, which is based on Android.

Most Android tablets have chips based on ARM architecture, which dominates the mobile market.

Panasonic's Toughbooks are known for their rugged features. The Toughbook FZ-A2 is water resistant and can withstand a 1.2-meter drop.

The tablet is not targeted at average users. It's for enterprise users and field workers who use tablets in harsh conditions. Panasonic also offers rugged tablets with Windows.

The Toughbook FZ-A2 has a 10.1-inch screen with a 1920 x 1200 pixel resolution. The tablet offers nine hours of battery life. The battery is replaceable.

With all its aging technology, the tablet is keeping up with a USB Type-C port, a USB 3.0 port and Wi-Fi. The tablet can be bought with 4G LTE capabilities. It also has Bluetooth 4.2.

The Android launcher experience on tablets is still terrible

It's not quite a desktop, but it's not quite a normal home screen.

The Android tablet experience is often awkward and awful, and that goes double for the launchers, which are inconsistent, inconvenient, and often times ugly. From third-party launchers to manufacturer versions of tablet layouts, there's a lot to be desired, and while part of that blame falls on developers, it also falls to Google, which has still not quite figured out how tablets should behave.

And it falls on us. Because we just don't know what we want.

Look at this screen. What do you see? I see a lot of wasted space. I see ridiculously oversized grids and laughably scaled widgets. Icons are huge, widget text is small, and there is no real happy medium. Long story short, tablet launchers are phone launchers blown up. That's not always a bad thing, as good launchers make tablets tolerable. The problem is that even good launchers don't make the tablet UI enjoyable.

Tablets have always been an in-between category. Not quite a laptop, not quite a phone. Phones being covered with grids of icons are fine, as everything's within easy reach of a thumb. Desktop layouts, with a larger grid and a larger flexibility, have a mouse to minimize the impact of reaching across the screen. Tablets are too big for the classic phone grid, and reaching past the bottom third of the screen takes a second hand — though if you can use a tablet one-handed at all, good on you, giant v

It doesn't help that just as phone launchers seem determined to have five icons on the dock, launchers on tablets seem to think the magic number is seven, which leaves gaps in smaller tablets and black holes in larger ones. Icons are often comically oversized to compensate for this, which only reinforces the bloated phone look.

Then we have widgets. Widgets, which are already often overlooked on phones, are completely forgotten for tablets. Most widgets are designed to be 4x1 or 4x2. They're not designed for a 7x7 grid, or a 12x12, as I often use on large slates. Try stretching a 4x1 widget across a 10-inch tablet screen, even a good widget like 1Weather. They all look horrible, but widgets only look as good as developers design them to be, and tablet-optimized widgets are too low on the totem pole for most developers.

So where do we go from here?

So, where do we go from here? Well, it's hard to get launcher developers and widget developers to focus on improving the tablet experience when we keep calling tablets dead. If we're not vocal, nothing will change, either. Ask developers of apps you like if they've considered how their widgets look on larger screens. Get into launcher betas like Nova Launcher's and give feedback on how to make the tablet launcher experience feel less hobbled. The first part of asking for what we want is to figure it out, though, and that's easier said than done.

The Community Tablet is a solar powered mobile computer with touch screen displays and virtual keyboards built in on a trailer to provide Internet access to remote areas. It provides the infrastructure needed to offer connectivity and online services to communities, regardless of their location and income or the existent infrastructure. In order to facilitate interaction with the virtual world, Kamaleon also offers digital literacy training to the local workforce and communities they serve.

Launched in November 2016 in Mozambique, the Community Tablet ultimately aims to promote digital inclusion, and a knowledge based society in Africa. Beginning in Mozambique with an astounding 24 million people without Internet connection, the invention will be used to support campaigns that address issues such as HIV, tuberculosis, water sanitation and online education initiatives in partnership with governmental, non-governmental and private organisations.

By promoting access to health information in rural areas, the Community Tablet aims to improve communications among health care institutions, provide support to reordering medications and facilitate data monitoring in rural clinics. Since schools are largely unavailable in remote areas due to lack of connectivity, the Community Tablet can also be used as a local library for the youth and the local community to access online learning opportunities.

Dell is kicking off CES 2017 with slick new laptops that double as tablets

On Thursday, Jan. 5 at 1 p.m. EST, Yahoo Finance will livestream Dell's press conference at CES, the consumer technology show in Las Vegas.

Dell is rolling into CES 2017 with two new 2-in-1 laptops that are worth checking out. The first is a new version of the company's excellent XPS 13 notebook, while the second is a direct competitor of Microsoft's Surface Pro 4. Both double as tablets.

First thing's first, though, is the new XPS 13. Dubbed the XPS 13 2-in-1 and available Jan. 5 for $999, the new model can be used as both a standard laptop and a tablet when you flip its display around. That means you can go from typing your TPS reports to watching movies on the couch with ease. The 2-in-1 is every bit as attractive and well-built as the original XPS 13, which is still one of my favorite laptops on the planet. Heck, I even got one for my mom.

This XPS 13 2-in-1 is slimmer than the standard XPS 13 thanks to its new fanless design. In fact, Dell says the 2-in-1 fits its 13-inch display into an 11-inch body thanks to its extremely thin InfinityEdge bezel.

Speaking of the 2-in-1's screen, it's every bit as bright and vibrant as the regular XPS 13, which is a huge compliment. The base model of the 2-in-1 comes with a standard 1080p resolution panel, though you can always bump that up to a QHD resolution screen.

To make use of the system's 2-in-1 design, Dell will sell an optional Dell Active Pen stylus so you can write directly on the laptop's display.

The Dell XPS 13 is such a great computer because of its slim design and powerful performance thanks to Intel's Core i5 and i7 processors. But the XPS 13 2-in1 won't get those same chips.

See in order to ensure the 2-in-1 used a fanless design, Dell had to opt for Intel's new Core M versions of the i5 and i7. That means you might not get the same kind of firepower you'd expect of the XPS 13. Still, it should be more than enough for most everyday users.

Also of note is the fact that the XPS 13 2-in-1 only uses USB C ports. That's the exact same reason I, and many other reviewers, criticized Apple's new MacBook Pros. But unlike Apple (AAPL), Dell has included a USB C to standard USB adapter with the XPS 13 2-in1, so you'll still be able to use at least one standard USB device without having to shell out cash for an adapter.

If the XPS 13 2-in-1 can manage to be as good as the standard XPS 13, Dell might just have two of the best Windows PCs on its hands. We'll have to wait for our full review to know for sure, though.

In addition to the XPS 13 2-in-1, Dell is showing off a new laptop/tablet hybrid aimed squarely at taking on Microsoft's excellent Surface Pro 4. Available Feb. 28 and starting at $899, the Latitude 5285 — it really needs a catchier name — features styling similar to the Surface Pro 4, with a slight twist.

Like Microsoft's 2-in-1, the Latitude 5285 can be used as a standalone tablet. A detachable keyboard pulls double duty as the tablet's cover and a standard notebook keyboard when using the 5285 in laptop mode.

Just like the Surface Pro 4, the Latitude 5285 sports a 12.3-inch touch screen display. Though unlike the Surface, which has a brilliant 2736 x 1824 resolution panel, the Latitude 5285 gets a 1080p display. That would be a problem if the 5285 were being marketed to consumers, but Dell is aiming this 2-in-1 for the enterprise market where super-high resolution screens aren't exactly necessary.

One of my biggest gripes about the Surface Pro 4 is that the keyboard, which you would think comes with the system, is actually a $130 accessory. And unfortunately, Dell has followed the same path making the Latitude's travel keyboard an optional add-on. Pricing for that isn't available just yet.

In terms of performance, the Latitude 5285 is neck-and-neck with the Surface Pro 4. You can get Intel's Core i-series processors (7th-generation), up to 16GB of RAM and up to a 1TB SSD.

Unlike the Surface, though, the Latitude includes two USB C ports. Don't worry, there's also a standard USB 3.0 slot.

The one big difference between the Latitude and Surface, well besides their displays, is how you pop out the Latitude's built-in kickstand. See, unlike the Surface, which lets you pull out the kickstand from the back of the tablet, the Latitude actually pops it out for you when you push the tablet down on a hard surface. It's a pretty neat little mechanism, but definitely not something that should factor into your buying decision.
