NVIDIA Updates SHIELD Tablet K1 With Security Patch & Bug Fixes

Back towards the end of December NVIDIA started rolling out the 1.0 software upgrade for the SHIELD Tablet K1, which brought the device forward to Android 6.0 Marshmallow for users. While not everyone likely received the software on that day or within the first few days, many users of the K1 have been enjoying Marshmallow for the past few weeks with the addition of things like Now On Tap and more granular permissions controls. Today NVIDIA has started to push out the 1.1 version of the software upgrade for the SHIELD Tablet K1 which is still Android 6.0 Marshmallow, but introduces a number of bug fixes and improvements as well as things like the most recent security patch for Android.

NVIDIA details the changes to look forward to in their latest release notes about software updates for the SHIELD Tablet K1, and while there aren't really any new features to look forward to this time around the update is still very much important as it contains the latest security patch. In addition to now offering users a more secure software experience on the device, the update being sent out today also includes optimized behavior for legacy applications that were using up more power than needed. This optimization alone is a useful one as it should help extend battery life a little bit for those who were using legacy apps, another important improvement though is the enhanced connectivity to WiFi, so for users who were having problems staying connected to their local network, or any WiFi network for that matter, this should do the trick to fix things up.

NVIDIA also included fixes for crashes in performance, as well as random crashes in the gamepad mapper for those who used it. If you are someone who has Doom 3 installed on the device and has had issues with starting the game, today's update should also fix the no launching issue as detailed by NVIDIA. There is also now included support for the stylus Lasso capture function, and the touchpad support on the SHIELD controller has been re-added with this update as well. As the update is beginning to roll out today, it's quite likely that some users will see the update now while it could take a few days or more for it to reach others.
